1. Overview

MyBBQ is built for sharing BBQ and cooking experiences. That includes things like:

  • Cook logs
  • Meat photos
  • Recipes
  • Notes and lessons learned
  • Finished cook results
  • Friendly community interaction around BBQ

We want MyBBQ to feel welcoming to everyone, whether they are smoking their first pork butt or posting their hundredth brisket.

Use common sense, be respectful, and keep your content focused on cooking and community.

2. What's Allowed

Content is welcome on MyBBQ when it supports the purpose of the app and helps build a positive BBQ community.

Examples of allowed content include:

  • BBQ cooks, recipes, and food prep
  • Photos of meat, smokers, grills, rubs, sauces, sides, and finished plates
  • Cooking notes, lessons learned, and tips
  • Temperature tracking, cook times, spritz logs, and similar cook details
  • Public sharing of completed cooks to the Shared Cooks feed
  • Friendly discussion and profile information related to your BBQ identity

We encourage content that is useful, authentic, and respectful. Show your wins, your experiments, and even your mistakes. That is part of the fun.

3. What's Not Allowed

The following content is not allowed on MyBBQ:

Sexual or explicit content

Do not post nudity, sexually explicit images, or sexualized profile photos. This includes content that is graphic, suggestive, or inappropriate for a general audience.

Graphic violence or disturbing content

Do not post content that is excessively gory, violent, shocking, or disturbing. Food preparation photos are fine, but content meant to disgust or upset others is not.

Hate speech or hateful conduct

Do not post content that attacks, demeans, or promotes hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics.

Harassment or bullying

Do not threaten, shame, target, or harass other users. MyBBQ is for sharing cooks, not attacking people.

Profanity and abusive language

We filter profanity in names and text fields. Attempts to bypass those filters, including obfuscated profanity, are not allowed.

Spam or misleading activity

Do not post spam, repetitive content, scams, fake engagement, or misleading promotional content. Content should be genuine and relevant to BBQ and cooking.

Impersonation

Do not pretend to be another person, brand, creator, or business. Your profile should represent you honestly.

Illegal or dangerous content

Do not post content involving illegal activity, threats, exploitation, or anything that encourages harm to people, animals, or property.

Copyright or intellectual property violations

Only share photos, recipes, and other content you created or have permission to use. Do not post content that infringes someone else's rights.

We may remove any content that we believe violates these guidelines or harms the MyBBQ community, even if it is not specifically listed above.

4. Profile and Display Name Rules

Your public profile should be clean, accurate, and appropriate for a general audience.

Display names

Display names must:

  • Be between 2 and 30 characters
  • Use letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes, or hyphens only
  • Be unique
  • Pass our profanity filter
  • Not include disguised or obfuscated profanity
  • Not be changed more than once every 30 days

Display names are public and shown to other users.

First and last names

First and last names must:

  • Be between 2 and 30 characters
  • Use letters, spaces, apostrophes, or hyphens only
  • Pass our profanity filter

First and last names are private and are not shown on public profiles.

Other text fields

Cook names, recipe names, notes, instructions, and lessons learned must stay within the app's character limits, pass profanity filtering, and may not include unsupported characters such as < or >.

5. Photo and Image Guidelines

Photos are a big part of the MyBBQ experience. We want people to share great cooks while keeping images appropriate for all users.

Cook photos

Cook photos should be related to BBQ, cooking, or food sharing. Good examples include:

  • Meat before, during, or after a cook
  • Smoker or grill setups
  • Finished slices, bark, smoke rings, and plated food
  • Rubs, sauces, tools, and other cook-related visuals

Cook photos may be reported by users if they appear inappropriate or violate these guidelines.

Profile photos

Profile photos must be appropriate for a general audience. They may not include:

  • Nudity
  • Sexual content
  • Explicit imagery
  • Graphic or abusive content
  • Hate symbols or threatening imagery
  • Impersonation of another person or brand

Profile photos go through automated moderation and may also be reviewed manually before they are approved.

6. Reporting and Moderation Process

We use a mix of automated systems and human review to help keep MyBBQ safe and community-focused.

Reporting shared cook images

Users can report shared cook images they believe violate these guidelines.

If a shared cook image receives 3 reports, the image is automatically hidden from public view pending moderator review.

Moderators may then:

  • Approve the image, which marks it as clean and makes it visible again
  • Hide the image, which keeps it blocked from public feeds while review continues
  • Reject the image, which permanently blocks it unless a moderator later reverses that decision

Profile photo moderation

Profile photos are checked by automated moderation tools and may also enter a manual review queue.

A profile photo may be:

  • Approved if it is clean and allowed
  • Hidden or flagged if it needs additional review or is not appropriate for public display
  • Rejected if it violates these guidelines

If your profile photo is rejected, the app may show a message telling you to contact support if you believe the decision was incorrect.

7. Enforcement Actions

We aim to enforce these guidelines fairly and consistently.

Depending on the situation, we may take one or more of the following actions:

First offense

For a first violation, we may remove the content and send a warning.

Repeat offenses

For repeated violations, we may temporarily suspend features such as:

  • Photo uploads
  • Feed sharing
  • Other community features

Severe or illegal content

For severe violations or illegal content, we may immediately close the account without prior warning.

We reserve the right to act faster when needed to protect users, the community, or the platform.

8. Appeals and Support

If you believe your content was removed, hidden, or rejected by mistake, you can appeal by contacting:

support@mybbq.app

You can also use this support email for:

  • Moderation appeals
  • Account issues
  • Email change requests

When reaching out, include enough detail for us to review the issue, such as your display name, the type of content affected, and why you believe it should be reconsidered.

9. Privacy Summary

We want to be clear about what information is public and what stays private.

Public

The following may be visible to other users:

  • Your display name
  • Your approved public profile photo
  • Shared cooks you choose to post publicly
  • Your public author profile
  • Your community activity, such as following and rankings

Private

The following is kept private:

  • Your email address
  • Your first and last name
  • Weather and location data tied to your cook logs

Weather and location data are only visible to the owner of the cook. They are never shown publicly and are not included in exported summaries.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update these Content & Community Guidelines from time to time as MyBBQ grows and changes.

When we make updates, we will post the revised version on this page. Your continued use of MyBBQ after changes are posted means you accept the updated guidelines.
